How to dress a spring table

There is no doubt that one of the best formulas to ensure that springtime rubs off on us is to organise a meal in the open air, whether in our garden, or in the heart of nature. However, can we recreate this pretty atmosphere inside, in our dining room at home? In the following article we share some tricks and tips so that, thanks to the table decorations, we can enjoy a spring meal [...]

With the beginning of spring we gain daylight hours, the temperatures are less harsh, the landscapes blossom… It’s not for nothing many people consider it the most cheerful season of the year. An explosion of colour and energy that we can recreate in table decorations to enjoy our get-togethers with this atmosphere of freshness and vitality.

If in literature the spring is youthfulness, in our homes the arrival of the new season means the possibility of opening doors and windows, taking in the air, putting away the heavy winter clothing and bringing out new fabrics and colours that will help us revitalise our day-to-day lives.

There is no doubt that one of the best formulas to ensure that springtime rubs off on us is to organise a meal in the open air, whether in our garden, or in the heart of nature. However, can we recreate this pretty atmosphere inside, in our dining room at home? In the following article we share some tricks and tips so that, thanks to the table decorations, we can enjoy a spring meal indoors as well.

Placemats and cotton napkins

When dressing the spring table, we can choose to create a soft and delicate atmosphere, like cherry blossom, or we can tend towards a more colourful style, like the fruit baskets that in these days are full of strawberries, plums or apricots.

In both cases, and as we have mentioned on other occasions, the use of one or other fabric will have a determining role in table decorations.

To dress the table with pastel shades

width=If you are looking for a quiet atmosphere and with a touch of sweetness, you should go for soft colours. You can continue with timeless white or by giving a touch to table decorations with pastel greens, yellows or pinks. It is a subtle way of evoking the spring vegetation, sunlight or flowers on your table.

With the Aquamarine and Pink collections, for example, you can dress an elegant mono-colour table, or combine placemats and napkins with light, more neutral colours such as Cream or Pearl Grey.

Not only cotton, but also linen, is a very good option to provide a note of freshness in table decorations. With this textile, the brighter and more recommendable shades for this period of the year are the Linen Natural and Linen Cream collections.

width=Another option is to go for placemats and cotton napkins with springtime motifs. Perhaps the most obvious (and effective) are flowers, as in the Flowers collection: a delicate liberty pattern in pink. A perfect option to give that touch of cheer and delicacy to our gathering.

To dress a table with bold colours

width=As we said, spring is softness but also energy and vitality. It is the rebirth of trees and plants that, with their pretty flowers, leave the sober landscape of winter behind. An endless list of shades that, with the sunlight, sparkle with even more force.

In table decorations, colour is also the star. Oranges, fuchsias, greens such as pistache or lively blues are just some of the options to give your table a cheerful and fun-filled air. If you dare, you can combine placemats and cotton napkins from different collections and thus create a veritable explosion of energy. You can also opt for dressing the table with a mono-colour base and alternate shades with other elements such as the crockery, decorative flowers…

More table decorations: flowers and fruits

In spring, flowers are the protagonists par excellence. So that if throughout the year they help us in table decorations, in spring it is obvious that they must be present.

We can place them in a great variety of jars, glass recipients, milk jugs… of different shapes and materials according to the style we want to give our table, whether more elegant or rural. We can go for small branches of the same flower or create pretty combinations. We can show them off in a larger recipient or spread them in small groups along the table. We can even scatter them directly over the tablecloth, or use them to decorate and customise the napkin holders. We can even create original ice cubes with them to surprise your guests! You just need flowers, water and an ice cube mould 😉

As well as flowers, in springtime table decorations we can also play with attractive colours that typify the seasonal fruits. One of the simplest options is to use the fruit bowl as an aesthetic element: filling it with lemons, for example, which with their bright yellow can create a pretty contrast with another base of fuchsia flowers, for example. In the social media you will also find a wide range of handicrafts with fruits. Did you know, for example, that with strawberries and skewers you can create an attractive edible bunch?

The spring menu, colour and health

The fact is, not everything is aesthetics. To enjoy an excellent meal we must have a pleasant atmosphere (determined by the company, the space, the table decorations…) and an appetising and healthy menu. In this latter aspect spring is also on our side.

We are at a time of the year that is excellent for enjoying a great variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. For example, strawberries, which are a great source of vitamin C (more than oranges). Plums are rich in fibre, cherries in potassium… As well as dressing the table with their attractive colours, they provide us with nutrients and minerals that are beneficial to our health.

Peas and wild asparagus are also ingredients that we can include in the menu in these days, and which provide us with a wide range of recipes that do not have to complicate our lives. Broad beans and artichokes are also a good way of bringing the best of spring to our dishes.

We bid farewell to winter and that also involves saying goodbye to the dishes higher in calories. Welcome to fresh and light recipes!
